Gulftown is the codename of a future six-core hyperthreaded Intel processor able to run up to 12 threads in parallel and using the Intel Nehalem microarchitecture in the 32 nm "Westmere" shrink[1]. It will be sold as an Intel Core i7[2] The first release will be the Core i7 980X in the first quarter of 2010[3][4][5], while its server version will be the Xeon 5600-series.
First figures indicate that at equivalent clock rates, it has 50% higher performance than the corresponding quad core Xeon for parallel tasks. Despite having 50% more transistors, the CPU strongly benefits from the 32-nm process as it draws 50% less power in idle mode.[citation needed]
Gulftown is the first six-core dual-socket processor from Intel, following the quad-core Gainestown a.k.a Nehalem-EP processor using the same LGA 1366 package, while the earlier Dunnington six-core processor is a Socket 604 based multi-socket processor. The CPUID extended model number is 44 (2Ch) and two product codes, 80613 and 80614 have been seen referred to as Gulftown in early samples.
به وضوح دلالت بر ارائه core i9 با سوکت 1366 دارد
