Rumors of a potential $8 billion takeover bid for peripherals maker Logitech by Microsoft have been floating around since January, but in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Logitech chairman Guerrino De Luca slammed the claims branding it “an operation without sense”.

De Luca said that not only a stake by Microsoft would hinder Logitech’s pressure to innovate, but such a deal would generate problems from antitrust authorities seeing as the two companies together would have a virtual global monopoly in mice and keyboards. Interestingly, he also added that Logitech already has a Microsoft connection of sorts, as a “small stake” in the company is owned by the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation.
