گاه و بيگاه به تصاويري طبيعي برمي‌خوريم که به شدت اغراق آميزند، بطوريکه به نظر ميرسد که يک تصوير حقيقي به گونه‌اي با نرم‌افزارهاي گرافيکي دستکاري شده است تا در مرز بين فضاي طبيعي و مجازي قرار بگيرد. به اينگونه تصاوير HDR مي‌گويند. اين نام از کلمه‌هاي High Dynamic Range گرفته شده و مجموعه تکنيک‌هايي است که اجازه ميدهد، محدوده اي وسيع از سطوح روشنايي را در يک تصوير ذخيره کنيد. تصاويري که در اين تاپیک خواهيد ديد نمونه‌هايي از تصاوير HDR هستند.
