در عکاسي به تصوير ضد نور يک شيء معمولاً ضد نور يا سيلوئت اطلاق مي‌شود. همچنين سايه يک شيء نيز ضد نور به شمار مي‌آيد. در گرافيک نيز به تصاوير مسطح اجسام که از هيچ بافت و خطي تشکيل نشده‌است و شيء را فقط بوسيله خطوط محيطي آن مي‌توان تشخيص داد ضد نور يا نيمرخ مي‌گويند.
